Park Ridge Girls Soccer Defeats Biggest Rival Second Time Around
The Park Ridge and Waldwick Girls Soccer teams are always battling for a victory every time they meet, but at the end of the day, only one team is going home with a win. Waldwick happened to be the victorious team early on in the season, but that didn’t discourage Park Ridge the second time around. On Friday, October 13th, the Park Ridge Owls hosted the Waldwick Warriors at their home field and were ready to battle for the win. In the first half, senior and Captain, Claire Perez, leads the team with a goal, but minutes later Waldwick comes back to tie the score. Just before halftime, Perez scored her second goal of the game, giving Park Ridge a lead of 2-1. Twenty minutes into the second half, sophomore Claudia Segovia scored the third and final goal of the game. Park Ridge defeated their biggest rival 3-1, and spoiled their undefeated season. The Owls came together for a huge group hug, celebrating their success. “After our first loss to Waldwick, we knew we needed to come prepared with a new game plan. We worked on our new strategy all week and came ready to perform. The team worked really well together and I believe it was the best game we’ve played so far this season” said Segovia. Park Ridge’s defense played especially well while facing Waldwick’s aggressive offensive members. “Our defense really stepped up during this game. We were able to shut down almost all of their opportunities on goal” sophomore Kira Mitchell said. Congratulations to the Park Ridge Owls!
